Description
Variations on traditional Finnish polka ‘Säkkijärven Polkka’ composed by Renzo Ruggieri (2012) for virtuoso accordion (standard bass). Dedicated to his student Viivi Maria Saarenkylä for her program in international accordion competitions. Viivi Maria Saarenkylä played this work and won 1st in Castelfidardo 2014 and many podium finishes at international competitions in 2014 and 2015 including 2nd place at the 2015 Coupe Mondiale.
This arrangement is based on the famous Finnish tune Säkkijärven Polka. Säkkijärven Polka, also called the “Karelian-Finnish Polka,” is a well-known folk tune from Finland, popular with Finnish accordionists. As the title Variations on Säkkijärven Polka suggests, this is an arrangement with variations and was created to be used in international competitions in “virtuoso” style. And fits well for concerts where the performer wants to display brilliant melodic repertoire.
Renzo Ruggieri has performed all over the world to great acclaim. He specialized in jazz piano under Franco D’Andrea and since, has recorded numerous CD’s as both leader and session player. Much of his music been published and he has written teaching methods for important publishing houses. He is the leading exponent of Italian Jazz in formations that range from a DUO to the RENZO RUGGIERI ORCHESTRA.
